I went by the coffee shop today. The place is closed for good. I spoke with a guy who took over (I think) and he said that the place is in the process of being converted into an Ethiopian Bistro. I had some Ethiopian food back in DC couple years ago..it was awesome. Good Luck

I'm a latte fanatic also! I actually like Twiggs. It could be I just got lucky, or you got unlucky, or they got a new, good barista, but I recently started going back there, and I think they have the second best latte in San Diego. It was strong, but not bitter, and the foam was nice and dense -- good enough to make a latte art apple-shaped design.

My hands-down favorite latte is Caffe Calabria though. I don't think anyone comes close to them in SD. They're the only ones who consistently put out lattes that look like the ones on coffeegeek -- perfect brown/white rosettas. The lattes have a rich, heady espresso flavor, and the dense, creamy foam softens and carries the coffee flavor.

Incidentally, I've only been to Cream once, and it was how you described Twiggs as being, bitter, bordering on acrid. The foam looked pretty good, so I plan to go back and see if it was a fluke (and try some of those chocolates).

I've also had decent lattes at Bean Bar in Pt Loma, and Influx in Golden Hill. I'm looking forward to future installments of the coffeehouse roundup.

Awesome! Do you have a recipe for the princess cake? I tried looking online but could only find one or two, and I'm not so sure about either of them.
